Hello. This is my new blog. Isn't it pretty. This is the first blog I've ever creqted. I am so happy with it. I will have to figure out what to say here now that I have a blog. Oh well. Tomorrow.
Thanksgiving turned out to be unusually festive, because our church (First Unitarian Universalist) had a joint service with Temple Emmanuel. This tradition goes back to the time of the San Francisco earthquake in 1906. Temple Emmanuel was gutted, so the First Unitarian Church invited the congregation to use their (our) facilities until they could rebuild their synagogue. Since then, we and they have a tradition-every Thanksgiving our congregations meet at either the church or the synagogue (we rotate each year) for a joint service. Oh it would have brought a lump to your throat! We sang America the beautiful, Temple Emmanuel's choir sang the 100th psalm (in Hebrew) led by their cantor, (a woman whose name escapes me now, but she brought down the house at an interfaith service at Saint Mary's cathedral a few years ago). John Robinson, our interim minister, preached a sermon. And afterwwards, a buffet table full of yummy sweets (fortunately most of us had already eaten breakfast). They had good coffee (Unitarian coffee is, for some reason, pretty awful, (lightly colored brown water). I had ushered at church the previous week, and so got roped into ushering for this event. Out came my ushering outfit (grey pinstipes, white shirt, blue and red striped tie) that I bought at a Junior League second hand store during a 50% off sale day. Went to my co-worker's parents after service for turkey dinner. delicious dinner (spinach pie, stuffing, turkey, cranberry sauce made from real cranberries, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, etc etc etc.) They just sold their house in the city and are now living in Half Moon Bay, just down the coast. A great day.
